MY WORK
My technique has been influenced primarily from my collaborative work with the Greek sculptress Parthena Tsanakidou, whom I consider to be an exceptionally gifted artist. Tsanakidou is a lecturer in Art at the University of Zurich in Switzerland and conducts various workshops in sculpture, in which I have participated.
Most of my sculpting in marble is founded in the classical school of cutting, using a hammer and chisel - keeping the use of electrical tools to a bare minimum. Smoothing and polishing are also primarily carried out manually. Most of my creative work takes place at a friend's large marble plant in Eilat, and I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to him for putting at my disposal the heavy equipment required for my work with large, heavy blocks of marble. On occasion, when the dimensions of the marble block are too large, I engage someone to assist me with the lifting and moving.
I begin my bronze sculptures in my own studio at home in Eilat by first modeling them in clay or wax. The casting is then carried out at a foundry, either in Tel Aviv or near Jerusalem.
All the sculptures I have created began with an idea which first took shape in my mind and was then set down as a diagram – whether as an outline or in extensive detail. From these, I proceed to building my models.
Finally, a personal secret: While sculpting, I enjoy listening to Greek music, accompanied by a little fine wine!
